About me

I am Alexis Harvey, a writer, editor and researcher living in East Sussex. Most of my work is done very effectively through phone, Skype, Zoom and email, but I'm an hour away from London and happy to travel to meet you and talk about your project.

I grew up in England, Australia and New Zealand, where I did my first degree in English and History. After returning to the UK, I spent a couple of years doing an interesting variety of jobs – working for a record company, construction companies and a national union – before completing a postgraduate certificate in periodical journalism from the London College of Printing (now the London College of Communication).

After freelancing for the Independent, Red Letter magazine, Building Design and the Guardian, I worked for UK Wired from its launch and then moved to the Guardian and Observer, where I ended up as Head of Development, responsible for a team of permanent and freelance staff producing marketing, editorial and advertising material for both the Guardian and the Observer.

Since then, I have worked as a freelance writer and editor, undertaking a huge range of projects for as wide a range of clients. During this time I have also completed my honours degree in English literature (First Class) and am now studying for an MA at Sussex University.

Recent work includes working with award-winning journalist and author, Mary O'Hara, on her anti-poverty project projecttwistit and the book that followed it – The Shame Game; copy-editing legal newsletters; logo designs for a podcast and a start-up company; design and editing of a CSR document for a City law firm; and editing a fiction novel.

If you would like to know more about my experience, please contact me and I'll be happy to talk it through with you.
